Ventura, CA

East End

East Ventura — most people call it the East End — is the stretch of the city that begins at Victoria Avenue and continues toward the Santa Paula and Camarillo edges of town. It has its own recognized body, the East Ventura Community Council, one of seven such councils the City currently maintains, convening monthly and kept administratively separate from the neighboring Montalvo Community Council even though the two areas are often used interchangeably in casual conversation. Montalvo itself dates to an 1886 apricot-farming settlement with a Southern Pacific rail depot added the following year, and its history sits at the historic core of the broader area even though it remains its own governed district today. ZIP 93004 anchors addresses along the Kimball Road and Wells Road corridors, the same two streets that lead to the neighborhood's largest public assets. Off Kimball, Ventura Community Park houses the Aquatic Center's 50-meter racing pool. Down Wells Road, Saticoy Regional Golf Course traces its ground to 1921, when three investors broke ground on the Ventura County Country Club on the same 70 acres; the private club later relocated to Somis, and the City annexed the original grounds, reopening them decades later as today's public course. The result is a section of Ventura with a lingering agricultural edge, counting among the city's biggest single-site recreation draws within its own boundaries.

What defines it

The Housing Stock

The built environment sets this neighborhood apart more than any price band: Visit Ventura's own description leans on "spacious homes and mobile home parks," a housing mix that stands apart from Ventura's coastal and hillside stock.

Frequently asked

Is the East End an official Ventura neighborhood?

Yes — the City lists the East Ventura Community Council among its seven currently recognized neighborhood councils, meeting on the third Thursday of each month. Its own boundary reference, published by the City's tourism site, places it east of Victoria Avenue, reaching the city's edge near Santa Paula and Camarillo.

Is Montalvo the same place as East End?

Not officially. Montalvo was founded in 1886 as an apricot-farming settlement with its own rail depot added in 1887, and its history anchors the broader area's identity, but the City still governs it as a separate, distinctly scheduled council from East Ventura today.

What's the history behind Saticoy Regional Golf Course?

Three investors purchased the 70-acre site on October 5, 1921 to build the Ventura County Country Club, and it welcomed its first golfers in late 1922. The private club later moved to Somis; the City annexed the original grounds in 1963 and reopened them as today's public course in the 1980s.

What recreation facilities sit inside the neighborhood?

Ventura Community Park's Aquatic Center sits on Kimball Road and offers a 50-meter racing pool, a shorter 25-meter pool, a water-play pool, and two slides. Barranca Vista Center, an 8.74-acre park site, keeps kids and adults busy with classes throughout the year.

Which schools serve this part of Ventura?

Ventura Unified is the sole public district covering the area. ATLAS — full name Academy of Technology & Leadership at Saticoy — is a TK-8 magnet campus on Jazmin Avenue; a specific high school assignment isn't confirmed here, so check VUSD's current attendance-boundary map before assuming one.

Can I reach the Ventura River Trail from here?

Foster Park is the closest trail access point on this side of the city, but right now it only allows foot traffic during daytime hours, since the county is rebuilding sections that washed out in the 2023 storms. Overnight camping isn't offered on-site.

What does the neighborhood look like day to day?

The City's own tourism page frames it as having a slower, more rural rhythm than Ventura's coastal or downtown areas, with citrus and avocado groves still visible from the road and residential blocks that blend single-family houses with mobile home parks.
