Agoura Hills, CA

Reyes Adobe / Chumash Park

This corridor of homes off Rainbow Crest Drive and Medea Valley Drive in Agoura Hills sits in hillside terrain beneath Ladyface Mountain, with a direct U.S. 101 on-ramp at Reyes Adobe Road, so expect traffic noise closest to the interchange. Most of the corridor has no organized HOA, but one enclave, Medea Valley Estates off Medea Valley Drive, is a real, active homeowners association whose own public site says nothing about gates or fees; don't assume gated status there either. Yerba Buena Elementary sits on Reyes Adobe Road itself (GreatSchools 8/10), feeding Lindero Canyon Middle School (7/10) and Agoura High School (9/10) within Las Virgenes Unified; verify by address, since boundaries aren't confirmed street-by-street. Two city parks anchor the area and give it its working name: Reyes Adobe Park, home to the city's small history museum in a 19th-century adobe whose exact age is genuinely disputed, from roughly 1790 to 1850, and Chumash Park on Medea Valley Drive, with a ballfield, picnic tables, and multi-purpose fields, a different park from the similarly named Chumash Park and trail system in Simi Valley. A small retail plaza on Canwood Street holds a longstanding French restaurant and a kosher grocery.

What defines it

The Housing Stock

Homes in this corridor mostly date to the 1960s and 1970s based on circulating property records, an older, more established stock than newer subdivisions elsewhere in Agoura Hills, with the separately governed Medea Valley Estates enclave as the one HOA-run exception nearby.

Frequently asked

Is this a named, official neighborhood?

No. Real estate sites market an algorithmically drawn Reyes Adobe polygon, which is a search-term convenience, not an official boundary. The corridor here centers on the streets around two city parks, Reyes Adobe Park and Chumash Park.

How old is the Reyes Adobe, and who built it?

Historical accounts disagree in three ways, none more credible than the others. The city's own current materials and an independently placed 2010 historical marker both put construction around 1850, by José Paulino Reyes. A detailed 2004 newspaper feature instead states 1790 to 1820, built by Jacinto Reyes. A county library page names different builders altogether. The City of Agoura Hills acquired the property in 1983.

Is the historic Reyes Adobe the same building as the Rafael Reyes Adobe I saw listed as a Ventura County landmark?

No, a different structure in a different county. The Rafael Reyes Adobe, a Ventura County landmark built in 1855, sits near Lockwood Valley in northern Ventura County, more than 60 miles away. This corridor's Reyes Adobe sits at 30400 Rainbow Crest Drive in Agoura Hills.

Is there a hiking trail called Chumash Trail here?

Not in Agoura Hills. The well-documented 5.3-mile Chumash Trail to Rocky Peak starts from a different park of the same name in Simi Valley, a separate city. Agoura Hills' own Chumash Park lists a ballfield, playground, picnic tables, and multi-purpose fields, not a trail.

What schools serve this area?

Probably Las Virgenes Unified's Yerba Buena Elementary, which sits right on Reyes Adobe Road, plus Lindero Canyon Middle School and Agoura High School, though nobody has confirmed attendance boundaries here address by address. Check the district's own locator tool before treating any single campus as settled.

Is Medea Valley Estates gated, and what are the HOA dues?

Unconfirmed. Real estate sites describe it as gated with dues around $2,000 a year, but the association's own public website doesn't state anything about gates or fees. Contact the association or its management company directly before relying on either figure.
