Living in Northridge
Northridge is a City of Los Angeles community in the San Fernando Valley with no incorporated government, city council or municipal code of its own. For planning purposes the official Northridge Community Plan Area includes both Northridge and Sherwood Forest, and the packet cautions against using the plan area as a synonym for the everyday neighborhood: the two are different shapes drawn for different purposes.
City Planning publishes the official plan boundary map, and that map plus parcel-level city tools are the right basis for planning-context claims, while neighborhood-council boundaries are a third, separate geometry that does not match either. Representation runs through the City Council district and certified neighborhood councils, which are advisory.
The packet also carries a data warning worth repeating: legacy population estimates for Northridge circulating on secondary pages should not be republished as current facts, since no official current figure exists for the neighborhood as a single geography. Permits, services and fire protection are City of Los Angeles matters.
